Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii (Japanese: 来世は他人がいい Hepburn: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii, lit. "An Outsider is Better in the Afterlife"), with the same title as the one published by Asuka Konishi, under the pseudonym "Tetsuo," had been publishing on Pixiv. It has been serialized in Afternoon magazine (published by Kodansha) since the October 2017 issue.[1] It has been running in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine since August 25, 2017. The series won first place in the Comics category at the "Upcoming Manga Awards 2018."[2] As of May 2021, the cumulative print run had surpassed 1.3 million copies.[3]
In May 2021, a promotional video was released to commemorate the release of the 5th tankōbon volume. In March 2022, a promotional video for the 6th volume was published on the official Twitter account of Monthly Afternoon. In January 2023, to celebrate the release of the 7th volume, a commercial was posted on the magazine's Twitter and Asuka Konishi's Twitter account.[4]
In 2022, it was one of the final nominees for the 46th Kodansha Manga Awards in the General category.[5]
As part of its media mix, a TV anime adaptation was announced to be released in October 2023.[6]

Premise[]
Yoshino Somei, born into a yakuza family, is engaged to be married to a man chosen by her grandfather. Her fiancé, Kirishima, is the grandson of her grandfather's acquaintance. In order to fulfill the engagement, Yoshino moves from Osaka to Tokyo. At first, Kirishima is friendly and charming, but he quickly reveals his true nature, becoming abusive and demanding that Yoshino sell her body. She also faces bullying at school and desperately wants to return to Osaka. In response, her grandfather advises her to make Kirishima fall in love with her over the course of a year and then leave him without mercy. Believing that the men around her are all scoundrels, Yoshino decides to take action. She sells one of her kidneys for 4 million yen and confronts Kirishima and her classmates. Unexpectedly, Kirishima falls in love with her and proposes to her.

Manga[]
The manga series titled "Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii" is both written and illustrated by Asuka Konishi. It first appeared in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon on August 25, 2017. Kodansha subsequently compiled the series into individual tankōbon volumes, with the initial volume hitting the shelves on November 22, 2017. As of October 23, 2023, a total of eight volumes have been published.
In February 2022, Seven Seas Entertainment revealed that they acquired the rights to publish the manga in English in North America. The first English volume was scheduled for release in November 2022.
Short Story[]
A short story with the title "Futari wa Teihen" was published in the September 2015 issue of "Comic ZERO-SUM" (Ichijinsha). It tells the story of Yoshino and Shouma meeting during their middle school days, with Kirishima not making an appearance.
Anime[]
The upcoming Yakuza Fiancé anime is set to adapt the Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii manga, which has been in publication since August 2017 in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine. The manga has released seven volumes, and it was announced today that it has sold over 2.8 million copies. Yakuza Fiancé was the runner-up in Kodansha's 46th Manga Awards for the Best General Manga category. Currently, there is no information available about the production staff for the anime. However, Asuka Konishi, the creator, shared a trailer for the upcoming eighth volume featuring the characters and their voice actors. Whether these voice actors will reprise their roles in the anime remains uncertain.

Following that, in March 2022, a promotional video for the 6th volume was shared on Monthly Afternoon's official Twitter account. Collaborations[]
From January 20 to February 6, 2022, there was a collaboration with "THEキャラSHOP" to set up a shop in Shibuya Marui, Tokyo, on the 7th floor, where merchandise related to this work was available.[19] From February 11 to 27 of the same year, a pop-up store, "『来世は他人がいい』POP UP CORNER," was held at MEDICOS SHOP in Tokyo.[20]
In 2023, a collaboration with SuperGroupies is planned.[21] Collaborative items, supervised by the author Konishi, are being produced.[21]
