University of North Florida Reviews

Rating 2 out of 5
When I first arrived at UNF, I was genuinely looking forward to attending school here because I had family living in the Jacksonville area. I actually chose this school over several larger universities that I got accepted to (FSU, Ohio State, etc.) since it was more affordable. Between scholarships and federal aid, UNF is generally pretty inexpensive, which is definitely nice. That's the only major selling point from my time here, though.
Don't let the ~14,000 student size fool you, this school looks and feels like a glorified community college. There are limited class options for certain majors, campus life is nonexistent (even if you join clubs and organizations), and the software that the university uses for registration and payment is dicey at best. I have been screwed over multiple times due to the software messing up, and it wound up costing me hundreds in fees.
It could be worse, but if I went back in time to rethink my choice of college, I would definitely look elsewhere.

I moved down to Jacksonville Florida in order to attend UNF. The administration is the laziest administration I’ve ever seen. Dealing with the school administration is like pulling teeth. The students regularly get into screaming matches on campus which is apparently normal in Jacksonville. The students and professors are incredibly rude, nobody has enthusiasm. Lack of professionalism everywhere. Tutors do not want to help and regularly get into arguments with students all because they are just lazy and do not want to work. The only pro to UNF is that it is cheap and there are not too many crazy loud parties. Many people seem to leave campus for the weekends which is nice.

At the University of North Florida, I have had an overall good experience. I am a transfer student so I cannot speak to the General Education requirements, but the Engineering department is top notch. I have had incredible professors who are willing to work with me on all topics, they are open to help you further learning even beyond the scope of your class and genuinely interested in you as a person. The main thing I would like to see change is to increase the parking availability, particularly garages as that would help to relieve congestion in the lots.
