Thursday's results: Hudson girls lacrosse advances to state tournament

Hudson punched its ticket to its fourth OHSAA girls lacrosse state tournament Thursday night with a dominating victory over Magnificat in a Division I regional semifinal.

Senior Renee Morgan scored five goals and had one assist to lead Hudson to a 19-4 win at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

The 2024 Hudson team joins the 2023, 2021 and 2018 Explorers teams that won a regional championship since the OHSAA started sponsoring girls lacrosse in 2017.

Hudson (19-2) advanced to meet Olentangy Liberty at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Division I state semifinal at Ashland University. Magnificat ended its season with a 16-6 record.

“We are playing on top of our game,” Hudson coach Margie Anderson said. “We play like we are on fire right now. Every kid on the team is playing to their potential and I feel like they have figured out how to put it together as a group. Not only are each one of them playing the best that they can play, but they are bringing out the best in their teammates. They are highlighting each other’s strengths.”

Hudson led 12-2 at halftime en route to its 12th win in a row.

Hudson junior Grace Churchwell scored four goals and junior Ava Kuss netted three goals. Junior Lexie St. Pierre, senior Audra Lozina and junior Mackie Stickler contributed two goals apiece. Sophom*ore Lauren Brownley scored one goal.

St. Pierre had three assists and Lozina had two assists. Stickler, Brownley, junior Mallory Schenkenberger and junior Sara Killeen all had one assist.

“Our defense is playing fabulous lacrosse right now,” Anderson said. “They have gotten better in every game. Chloe Bigham, Paige Sutton, Mallory Schenkenberger, Emily Goodman and Mae Ivey are playing fantastic defensively. Our midfielders also play very well defensively. We typically play a zone defense, so in that zone our midfielders Mackie Stickler, Lexie St. Pierre and Renee Morgan play just as an important role as the defenders.”

Bigham is a sophom*ore. Sutton, Schenkenberger, Goodman and Ivey are part of Hudson’s talented junior class that includes starting goalie Hannah Clark.

Wednesday's results: Walsh Jesuit, Revere conclude girls lacrosse seasons in OHSAA regional semifinals

The Walsh Jesuit and Revere girls lacrosse teams concluded their seasons Wednesday night in separate Division II regional semifinals.

Host Bay Village Bay topped Walsh 11-6 and host Rocky River defeated Revere 13-4.

Freshman Camden Miller scored three goals, senior Lauren Vitantonio netted two goals and senior Amelia Dillon contributed one goal for Walsh (17-2).

Vitantonio finished the season with a team-high 59 goals. Senior Corinne Sanders totaled a team-high 33 assists. Vitantonio, Dillon, Grace Iero and Mia Kavlick were senior captains.

"This was a season led by our seniors and our defensive unit," Walsh coach McKenzie Bell said. "Our two goalies, junior Kate Feliciano and senior Mia Kavlick, set the tone and the team responded. The team worked hard to improve and adjust across the field throughout the season and earned all the success that followed."

Junior Lola Downing, freshman Sam Nations and sophom*ores Kira Perez and Bentley Huffman each scored a goal for Revere (15-6).

Senior Clarissa Bodjanac finished the season with a Revere team-high 58 goals and Downing totaled a team-high 27 assists.

"Our team was successful this year when we played good team offense and defense while dominating draw controls," Revere coach Sean Kobunski said. "We had five girls with 40-plus points and three of those five with more than 60 points.

"Our team leaders this year were sophom*ore Bentley Huffman, sophom*ore Taylor Catlett, senior Clarissa Bodjanac and junior Lola Downing offensively. Defensively, we were led by junior Lindsay Repenning and senior Kylie Perez."
