*Qualifications for a Free Laptop:

To qualify:

1. Be a New Student: You must be new to PCC, meaning you haven’t taken classes there for two semesters.
2. Take at Least 9 Classes: You need to sign up for at least 9 classes in the fall of 2023. Think of classes as the courses you’ll be taking.
3. Register by July 27: Make sure to register for your fall classes by July 27, 2023.
4. Keep Enrolling: You must continue taking 9 or more classes in the spring of 2024.
5. Pay Tuition & Fees: Pay your tuition and fees by August 1, 2023.
6. Attend New Student Welcome: Don’t forget to attend the New Student Welcome on August 5, 2023.

Important Note: If you drop classes and don’t meet these rules, you’ll have to pay $350 for the laptop.

Who Gets a Laptop:

The first 300 new students who meet these rules will get a free laptop. No need to sign up; PCC will let you know in June 2023 if you qualify.

UC Irvine Offers Free Laptops to All Students

UCI students, especially those in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS), need a laptop to complete their coursework. To ensure that all learners have access to the necessary digital tools for their studies, financial aid to purchase a laptop is available for all who qualify.

If UCI students receive financial aid during the fall semester, they may seek a one time budget expansion of up to $2,000 to acquire a new computer.

This allowance is designated for hardware, software, monitor, printer, and extended warranty expenses. Funding is limited to student and/or parent loans, subject to eligibility and borrowing limits.

UCI has outlined minimum laptop requirements for learners to ensure the best possible learning experience. These requirements exclude Chromebooks and tablets and include:

Northwest University Laptop Program

Northwest University is a college that provides laptop options for all undergraduate and graduate students with its free laptop computer program. Laptop models may vary depending on availability and enrollment status. Online professional program students are not eligible for this program.

Northwest will repair any hardware or software failure that is due to normal wear and tear for free. However, Northwest owns the laptop and its software, so they have the right to format and reload the hard drive without the user’s permission. Users are encouraged to back up their important personal files on a weekly basis.

Students must return their free laptop to the Northwest Technology Service Center (NTSC) before or on the last day of finals week or within 5 business days of withdrawing from the University. In most cases, students are not charged for minor damage, such as a broken screen or a lost AC adapter. However, students will be charged for major damage, such as vandalism or theft.

Students can add decorative or personal stickers to their laptop, but they must remove them before returning the free laptop to Northwest. The Northwest ID sticker must remain intact and not damaged.
