Bloody Mary Mocktail (1)

In the past, I would order a bloody mary because I wanted a drink, but I also needed some food. Yes this was my excuse for ordering one, I can drink and "eat" at the same time. Oh, how silly was that! While this beautifully savory drink is great for those salty cravings, it's one you should definitely pair with a Sunday brunch. A virgin mary, or a classic bloody mary, is the most popular brunch co*cktail.

Our alcohol-free version won't have you missing the alcohol, but if you do have a favorite nonalcoholic vodka lying around, by all means, add some in for the ultimate Bloody Mary mocktail! Our own bloody mary mix is packed full of rich flavors. There's nothing bland or boring about this one. Line the rim of your glass with some old bay seasonings and savor every sip! A favorite during Cinco de Mayo!

Fun Facts:A Virgin Bloody Mary is also known as The Virgin Mary, Bloody Virgin, or Bloody Shame. All of which are made with the same ingredients and garnishes as a Bloody Mary recipe but without the spirits. Ever heard of a Virgin Caesar? This equally delicious drink is like a Virgin Bloody Mary but instead uses clamato juice, which is a blend of tomato and clam juices.

So, whether you're hosting a laid-back weekend brunch or craving a mid-morning pick-me-up, join us in savoring the delightful, hangover-free joy that is the Virgin Mary! Bloody Marys, alcohol free, or not have always been like a meal in a glass. It's not just a drink, it's an experience. So if you're a bloody mary fan this recipe is for you!

Non-AlcoholicBloody Mary Mocktail Ingredients

  • V8 Tomato juice -My favorite is definitely tomato juice of the V8 variety. Absolutely use the right tomato juice for you, Clamato juice is also another popular option. Some find it good to use a low sodium V8 juice, as this recipe, and most like it contains a lot of salt. For the purest flavor, try an organic tomato juice.
  • Non-Alcoholic Vodka (optional)- I chose Stykk Vodka for this one for its subtle heat and flavor.
  • Fresh lemon juice or lime juice- Fresh is the way to go; if necessary, using bottled lemon or lime juice works just as well. Using a fruit juicer is going to yield the most amount of juice.
  • Worcestershire sauce -I am pretty picky with my Worcestershire sauce, so it's Lea & Perrins all the way. In a pinch, you can swap this out for soy sauce.
  • Prepared horseradish -Make sure to find only "prepared" horseradish, as this is the fresh grated horseradish root mixed with vinegar. Creamy horseradish sauce is also prepared horseradish, but it is mixed with sour cream or heavy cream.
  • Olive juice or brine -Dill pickle juice is an acceptable alternative to olive juice.
  • Tabasco hot sauce -Cholula or a hot sauce of your choice. If ½ a teaspoon is too much, just use a small dash of hot sauce.
  • Celery salt -You should be able to find this at your local grocery store in the spice section.
  • Black pepper -Freshly cracked black pepper will give the freshest peppery flavor.
  • *Optional- Dash of garlic powder
  • Ice cubes-Frozen water squares
  • The rim of the glass -Old bay seasoning & salt…lemon or lime wedge for wetting the rim
  • Garnishes- Celery stalk, Dill pickle spear, slice of lemon, and/or cherry tomatoes. This is where you can really get creative. If you've googled Bloody Mary's before, then you've seen the meal that can be served as a garnish. I like to keep it somewhat simple, offering just a few bites on the side, or some extras to toss into my drink as i enjoy it.

Bloody Mary Mocktail Recipe Variations

  • Want a spicy bloody mary? Try spicy tomato juice in addition to the Tabasco sauce for a spicy virgin bloody mary mocktail.
  • Even more spice?! Add a dash or two of cayenne pepper.
  • For a little complexity, try a splash of clam juice! It might not be for everyone, though.

Expert Tips For The Best Virgin Bloody Mary

  • If making ahead of time, make the alcohol free bloody mary mix in a pitcher. Times the recipe by 3 to comfortably fill a large pitcher without any possible overflow. Do not add the ice at this time. Set in the refrigerator to chill and let those flavors meld together. Once you're ready to serve, prepare your glasses and pour.
  • Don't add the seasonings first, as they could likely stick to the bottom of your shaker glass or pitcher and not incorporate fully. Add them after the tomato juice.
  • Get fun with the ice. There are so many different kinds of silicone ice cube trays out there. Check out the tools I use for the kinds I love.
  • Between refreshing your drinks, give the tomato juice mix a little stir. The seasonings may settle at the bottom making the top have a watery consistency.

Alcohol-Free Mocktail To Classic co*cktail

Classic bloody mary co*cktail recipes aren't too far away from the non-alcoholic version. So for those of you who do drink alcohol, just an easy swap of the alcohol-free spirit for the real deal:

  • 2.5 ounces of Vodka to the tomato juice mix.
